QuickPoll: Internet Censorship

Recent Poll on Internet Censorship

After a recent poll of over 5,000 of our members, it seems the federal government’s plan to bring about a mandate to block a black list of websites has us divided as to whether this would be beneficial to the public or not, with 45% of people agreeing to such a mandate, 43% disagreeing and 12% who have no opinion.

However, on closer inspection it seems that men have a stronger view than women, with 58% opposed to the mandate compared to only 33% of women sharing the same view. There is also a consistent increase in support for the mandate as age increases with 50% of people aged 55 years and over in favour compared to only 31% of 18-24 year olds. And interestingly, the ACT is the region showing the least support.

What’s your opinion on the Australian Government’s plan to implement an internet filtering

policy requiring ISPs to block some websites that are deemed to be publically unacceptable?

  1. I think mothers day is a good. But its like any other day, they have taken the meanning out of it. special days have become to commercialized and its all become over rated. Ex Australia day, boxing day, christmas, fathers day, valantines day, easter, ETC ETC ETC. to most ozzys its just an excuse to get on the beer and Im all for that. BUT lets not forget what the meanning behind the day is all about

  2. The internet its like everything else. Its there. If you dont like it dont use it. better yet if you dont like a site because of its contents. Parents should watch, keep an eye on what there kids are doing. I think its a waste of time and tax payers money for the goverment to black list sites. Like I said befor IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT USE IT OR GO THERE its easy. I say no to the Idea of the goverment making a black list. What, are they going to make a black list for everything in our lives?

  3. Forget the internet what about TV, adds, games, billboards, train stations. Newsagencies where magazines are displayed. The language on the streets and behavior. We are surrounded by anti social behavior. There is an old saying that goes “Monkey see, Monkey do.” Behavior is mimicked so we cannot control what happens at schools, sports. Children influence each other and usually a stronger personality dominates. Its the strong verses the weak. Fight- Flight, Fear- Anger, these terms we associate to STRESS. Society is so unstable at the moment its on the verge of collapse, we are loosing our ability to reason. We are allowing others to think and make our discissions.

  4. Bring on another form of “Prohibition”, after all, it worked for alcohol in the 30s and is working so well for Marijuana now.(This is sarcasm in case you don’t realize it)If you try to criminalize something the people want all you do is give organized crime another source of income. How long do you think it would take for those criminal geniuses out there to circumvent the restrictions and start to make big bucks from it(Selling the technology to who-ever has the money to pay for it).Money that will go into Heroin and Cocaine importation etc. in just the same way “Pot” profits are used today, instead of it being legal, being taxed and becoming a relatively useful part of society instead of a drain on it as it is at the moment..
Think about it.,The “FIRST” prohibition failed, and at the time there was only 2 people to watch.I am talking about the prohibition against eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden.If God himself could not enforce a prohibition when there were only 2 people in the world, what makes human beings think they can do better with 6,000,000,000 people to contend with.??
